Lucky Day

Photo of Lucky Day

It was indeed their LUCKY DAY when Karen, LeeAnne, Holly and Kris began singing together in August 2007. In the short time this quartet has been together, they have made some wonderful memories....the happiest (so far) is earning the title of 2008 Region 4 Quartet Champions! The next few months will be busy with preparing for the Sweet Adelines International competition in Honolulu, Hawaii in November of this year.

Kris, Holly, LeeAnne and Karen are from barbershop loving families and have grown up hearing four part harmony. With over 50 years combined experience in Sweet Adelines, this wonderful "hobby" is a big part of Lucky Day's lives. The love of singing barbershop harmony makes the distance this quartet travels seem not so long, even though the lead and bass live about 180 miles from one another.

Karen Tate, Lucky tenor, lives in West Chester, Ohio and has been singing barbershop harmony for 30+ years. Her life has been surrounded by barbershop music since the she was 6 years old when her mother and aunts first joined SAI. When she joined Almost Heaven Chorus in 1976, Karen had the pleasure of singing with her mother, two aunts and two cousins! Karen has been in many quartets, the most successful being Crescendo!, an International Semi-finalist in 1996, Top Ten International Finalist in 1997 and 1998 and 11th place in 1999. Being married to Bob for 25 years, the mom of Adam, Rebecca and Katherine AND the grandmother of Kailynn, Sara, Tommy and Kali is Karen's biggest achievement, however. You can always depend on her pulling out the latest pictures at any time!!

LeeAnne Vance, Lucky lead, lives in Troy, Ohio with Mike, her husband of 22 years, and their three teenagers, Matt, Nate and Emma. When she's not working full time in a law office in Troy, LeeAnne is teaching a class at the local community college or volunteering her time as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for children in the Miami County Juvenile System. LeeAnne has been in SAI for 13 years and also has an aunt and cousin that share her love of barbershop harmony singing with Jacksonville Harmony Chorus in Florida. This year's win for LeeAnne is her first, although she has been in quartets placing in the top 5 at the regional level in regions 4 and 24 several times. LeeAnne's flair for fashion and attention to detail is a huge contribution to Lucky Day -- especially when it comes to sewing sequins on our dresses!

Holly Colón, Lucky baritone, lives in Lebanon, Ohio. If you look up the word "busy" in the dictionary, you'll probably see a picture of Holly. She is the Executive Aquatic Director of the Countryside YMCA for many hours each day, then goes home to be a full time mom to her children, Tony and Lily. When they're tucked in for the night, she turns her attention to her husband of 10 years, Rob. Holly also is a barbershop brat and grew up watching her Dad, her aunt and her uncle sing in their respective choruses and quartets. Her Aunt Jan taught Holly her first tag at 5 years old (the infamous "behiiiiiind"). Holly's quarteting experience began with Crescendo! She was also the baritone of Latte, the three time regional champions of Region 4.

Kris Hawkins, Lucky bass, is from Louisville, KY and is a proud member of the Pride of Kentucky Chorus. Kris joined the chorus (and Sweet Adelines) in 1999 at the age of 13, singing tenor! Kris is what you might call the ultimate barbershop brat -- not only do both her parents sing barbershop, but both her grandfathers and her great grandfather sang barbershop as well. This makes her a fourth-generation barbershopper! Kris was also recently engaged to a barbershopper from Montreal and is planning a wedding for June 2009! Outside of barbershop, Kris' time is monopolized by school, and she will be graduating from Eastern Kentucky University in December 2008 with a Bachelors Degree in Special Education.

Lucky Day is thrilled to be a part of the Pride of Kentucky family. We are very excited for our friends in the Pride of Kentucky Chorus for winning the Region 4 2008 Chorus competition! We know that you will represent our wonderful region so well in Nashville in 2009!!
